It has been 2 1/2 weeks, or is it 3 weeks? I have been staying at home except for very rare trips to the grocery store. All I have to say is "Covid-19" and you'll know what I'm talking about.
The days are becoming a blur, like the meme suggests: "Until further notice, the days of the week are now called, thisday, or thatday, otherday, someday, yesterday, today and nextday.
Many parents got a crash course in homeschooling. A challenge that took me at least two or three years for myself to get comfortable with as a homeschool mom with eight years experience. I almost gave up each of those years (it's a notoriously known fact among homeschoolers that around February/March is a time of reconsidering the whole homeschool thing, and the only thing to get you through your doubt is the support of other homeschool parents). I'm glad I didn't give up, but yowza! These poor parents. At least my homeschooling was a choice and not inflicted onto me by any forces outside my own control.
My son is a graduating senior this year. Graduation is important to every single parent and child who has a graduating senior, so this really does kind of suck. We are still not certain if we are having a graduation party for him. And, his prom has already been postponed once with the potential possibility that it may be postponed again, or worse, cancelled altogether. However, the class of 2020 do have some really cool memes, for example: "You gotta hand it to the class of 2020. Senior skip day is #epic."
These seniors, ironically, were born the year of September 11. It's a "full circle" moment in time for me as I reflect on how much the world changed after the towers fell to the ground while peering into my new baby's eyes and dealing with personal issues (better left unspoken). I am faced with the cruel irony that today our world is dealing with the Covid-19 as I peer into my grown son's eyes and I'm dealing with personal issues (better left unspoken).
It will be a challenge to get through these trying and unsure times.
This morning as I was taking my morning walk, I found hope written on the sidewalks by some children in my neighborhood (a trend among parents to keep their children busy by asking them to draw creative inspirations from their hearts for anyone who might benefit from them). Signs of a beautiful optimism of what lies ahead in our future. Afterall, #we are all in this together.
Love and prayers,
Chris
